Four days spent in seclusion from the rest of the world and eight improvised tracks that were recorded live – that’s «Gysenstein»: a record whose vulnerability and unpredictability mirror the peaceful yet coarse winter environment of the Swiss alps.

Philipp Schlotter’s prepared acoustic piano whose sounds were further modified with effects, oscillates from club sounds to sparkly textures to erratic patterns. These memories reminiscent of the 90’s, interwoven with Fred Bürki’s electronic as well as organic beats, conjure up the duo’s current sonic shape. To collaborate and further expand their universe, the two invited vocalist Anna Aaron from Basel, who then enriched seven of the eight tracks with ethereal voices that masterfully explore a whole spectrum ranging from fluid to structured.

The recording feels like floating on a timeline that stretches and expands, or like a blissful walk on shaky ground.

"Gysenstein" sind vier von der Welt abgeschiedene Tage und acht Improvisationen, die live aufgenommen wurden. Die Zerbrechlichkeit und Spontaneität der Kompositionen spiegeln die friedliche und zugleich raue Umgebung des Winters am Rande der Schweizer Alpen wider.

Philipp Schlotters akustisches Klavier, das mit verschiedensten Gegenständen präpariert und durch Effektgeräte verfremdet wurde, schwankt zwischen Clubklängen, glitzernden Flächen und störrischen Patterns. Diese Erinnerungen an die 90er Jahre finden, verwoben mit den elektronischen und organischen Beats von Fred Bürki zu ihrer aktuellen Klangästhetik. Um ihr Universum nochmals zu erweitern, haben sie die Basler Sängerin Anna Aaron eingeladen auf sieben der acht Stücke mitzuwirken. Die Aufnahmen sind mit ätherischen Stimmen verziert, die mal unstrukturiert und mal skandiert sind.

Das Album vermittelt das schwebende Gefühl einer sich dehnenden Zeitlinie bei einem Spaziergang auf beweglichem Untergrund.

Le piano acoustique de Philipp Schlotter préparé et altéré jusqu’à l’extrême oscille entre sonorités club, nappes scintillantes et patterns entêtants. Des réminiscences des 90’s qui, au contact des beats électroniques et organiques de Fred Bürki, nous ramènent à un grain sonore résolument contemporain. Souhaitant élargir encore leur univers, ils font appel à la chanteuse bâloise Anna Aaron qui agrémente 7 des 8 morceaux d’overdubs de voix éthérées tantôt déstructurées et tantôt scandées.

L'écoute de cet album nous donne la sensation légère d’une temporalité qui se distend lors d’une balade sur un sol mouvant.
